When you think of a lanyard, your first thought might be that their primary use is to hold and display identification badges, but in today’s world, they’ve become a much more flexible tool.  Whether you want to organize your keys or have a nice holder for your cell phone, a lanyard can be a nice solution to your problem.  However, for a lanyard to be an effective solution, you need to choose the correct type of lanyard clip.  Lanyards clips come in many different styles, but there are a few, more popular types.

The first, and probably most popular clip, is the snap hook.  A snap hook clip is an oval-shaped clip that can be opened by applying pressure to the opening of the clip.  Because of the design, the clip will close by itself due to tension.  The snap hook clip is best used for small items that have a circular opening near the top.  This includes items such as keys and pens.

Another popular type of clip is the bulldog clip.  A lanyard with bulldog clip can be used for a variety of different things, but are best used with items that have an oblong hole to clip through, such as a plastic badge holder.  By pressing together one end, the clip will open on the other side due to a spring in the clip.  You can find different sizes of clips to fit what you’ll be clipping onto.  You can also find both metal lanyard clips and plastic lanyard clips in this style.  Metal is obviously the stronger of the two types, but you may find that plastic is a little easier on the budget.

Finally, you may choose that a clip doesn’t fit your style and that a plain split ring is your best option.  The split ring, which is the same as a key ring, is a familiar item to most people.  It works very well if you want to use a key lanyard, but it is difficult to use for almost every other item.  Most items are simply too large to use with a split ring and it’s often time consuming to get the item onto the ring.
